MCI (Medical Council of India) may soon allow Indian students who have completed their PG from Russia, Ukraine, Kyrgyzstan, China & some other countries to practice as PG doctor in India. Every year thousands of students from India head to above mentioned countries due to the low cost courses offered by them. Till now, MCI only recognized PG degrees from the 5 English speaking countries viz. US, Canada, UK, Australia & New Zealand. And doctors who completed their PG course from other countries were not given the registration of a PG doctor in India but this may soon be about to change.
As per the present rules, students can practice in India after completion of their MBBS abroad but after passing the FMGE / MCI Screening Test in India. But there was no such provision for recognition of PG degrees. The MCI and Board of Governors are reconsidering this aspect and it has been reported that if the students can clear DNB (Diplomat of National Board) exam in India for recognition of their PG degrees, then they may be able to work as a PG practitioner in India soon.
The MCI & Board of Governors are in the process of reforming the old rules to cater to the shortage of specialist doctors in India and their might be an announcement very soon regarding the same.
